As in September, container orders were few in October, we recorded 11 ships. The contract for 4 Capesizes by newcomer Daehan, reported in September failed to materialize, allegedly on account of insufficient refund guarantees. So the focus remained on tankers, and we recorded 33 new orders in addition to 2 VLGCs and one LNG carrier. Stolt-Nielsen awarded SLS (former Shin-A) with a contract for 6 chemical carriers with SS center tanks, presumably same spec as they concluded with Norwegian Aker Group. With a price tag of USD 85 million per vessel, this was marginally below the Norwegian price. Shipping Corp of India finally confirmed 6 x LR1 with STX and long-time HHI client Novoship extended their relationship by placing four LR2s. The MR segment saw 7 new contracts, down from 8 contracts in September. Most of these contracts have been reported for 2009 delivery, of which now rather few remain available in Korea.
