"Man is an animal that likes to live in cities". So said Aristotle in the fourth century B.C. But not even Aristotle could have predicted the tsunami of urbanisation that is engulfing the world at the beginning of the twenty first century. According to the United Nations, 2006 is the first year in the history of humanity in which the number of people living in cities will catch up with those living in the countryside. By the beginning of 2007, the balance will tip decisively in favour of towns.
