Second Incat 112m wavepiercer launched for Japanese operator

The second Incat 112m wavepiercing catamaran built for Higashinihon Ferry, Natchan World, has been launched. The vessel is due to leave Hobart, Tasmania, on delivery to Japan after an official naming ceremony at the Incat yard on April 8 and enter service on the operator's Hakodate-Aomori route on May 2. The builder reports that the launch of Natchan World caused Incat's chairman "a few anxious moments". Commenting on the float out of the vessel, Robert Cliffford said, "The level reached at 0600 on Feb- ruary 18 was 150mm less than predictions, owing to continued good weather. We had no choice but to launch however, as the next predicted suitable tide was not until May 5.
