Austal USA submits offer to build ten more LCS

On July 13 Austal USA submitted its "best and final offer" to build ten more 127m Littoral Combat Ship trimarans for the United States Navy. The 'Final Revised Proposal' is almost 70,000 pages long. A decision by the US Navy on the winning design is expected during August.rnIf Austal USA is awarded the contract, it says that it will employ another 2,000 workers at its yard in Mobile, Alabama. The workforce at the facility currently totals approximately 1,500, about 525 more than the number employed at the Austal yard in Henderson, Western Australia.
