As we enter the New Year, it is refreshing to be able to report of a new entrant into the ship finance market with a stated objective of developing a portfolio equivalent to a least $500M. The Bank of Ireland has recruited Paul Packard to head a new team designated "Maritime Industries", whose remit will include not only ship finance, but eventually also ports and logistics. At 33 years old, Packard already has 14 years ship finance experience through spells with Barclays, Merita, Kredietbank of Belgium (KBC)and ING.
