The profile of river transport for the 2012 Summer Olympics has been raised dramatically since the Olympic Delivery Authority decided to bar all private car access.rnThe ODA revealed earlier this month that it intends to make the Games a testing ground for a radical shift in transport priorities, to be extended to all major cultural and sporting events in the UK.rnThe chief beneficiary will be the rail and underground network, but water transport will also play a major role.rnWork has begun to improve the canal network of the River Lea, a tributary of the Thames that runs through the Olympic Park site.
