The process of selling and buying ships is a never-ending worldwide cycle of inspection, bidding and negotiation that has rolled unstop-pably onwards since man began the business of transporting cargoes by sea. Commercial managers assess ships for purchase, hard-pressed inspectors are deep in ballast tanks, sellers analyse reinvestment strategies and brokers debate, dispute, haggle, plead and occasionally even try to charm their clients into deals. Last week was certainly no exception. The apparent caution of buyers seen the previous week was replaced by coincidence or by a real change of mood, with the conclusion of a frenzy of big-ticket bulk carrier sales.
