Maersk Tankers plots new course

Tough trading conditions in the aftermath of the financial crisis have hurt tanker owners badly, Maersk Tankers among them. After a period of restructuring its business, it has a new strategy that should put it on a solid footing. Maersk Tankers, part of the AP Moller-Maersk (APM) group of Copenhagen, suffered losses of $901M in the four years 2010-13. Following the outbreak of the financial crisis, the group management assessed the situation and concluded that the tanker industry would not stage a sustained recovery for a long time.
