China's One Belt, One Road trade strategy is going green, delegates were told at the Marintec China 2015 exhibition in Shanghai. Beijing aims to use eco-friendly vessels and technological systems to forge the most efficient and shortest routes to link global trades. The green approach is reflected at one of its largest shipbuilders, China Shipping Group (CSG), which has agreed to build eco-friendly vessels and to build up a green management corporate culture. "Since 2011, CSG has scrapped around 182 old vessels, [aggregating] approximately 5.25 million dwt," CSG's vice-president, Ding Nong, revealed at the exhibition earlier this month. "The trend of shipping is about having bigger and younger vessels," he noted. "In turn, shipbuilders need to adopt new technology and techniques for construction to keep up."
