With a capacity of 266,000m~3, Mozah, the first of the Q-Max class of liquid natural gas (LNG) carriers, has taken the title of the world's largest gas ship from its smaller 210,000m~3 Q-flex sisters following its delivery last month from Samsung Heavy Industries to the owner, Qatargas. The essel has a length of 345m, beam of 53.8m and a draught of 12m. Deadweight is 125,600 tonnes and gross tonnage 163,922. Aside from its sheer size - the vessel will carry around 80% more cargo than standard LNG carriers - it is revolutionary in a number of other aspects. Designed for long-haul movements from Qatar to the United States and Europe, the ship is powered by a pairof MAN B&W 7S70ME-C engines each producing 21,770kW and driving their own fixed-pitch propellers. This set-up gives the vessel a redundancy that can be matched by few other gas carriers.
