July proved to be a hectic month for mergers and acquisitions with several high-profile deals being done. South Korean builder STX has made a bid for full control of Aker yards after building up a stake above the 40% threshold allowed under Norwegian law. STX's offer of NK63 ($12.6) per share puts a value on Aker of NK7.2Bn. In June, analysts said an offer price of NK70 or more might be needed to ensure the success of STX's bid. Aker Yards will move the presentation of its second-quarter financial results forward by one week to 8 August to provide shareholders with the most up-to-date information to help in evaluating the STX offer. Late last month STX announced that it has reached agreement with Aker stockholders to purchase a fur ther 19.5% of Aker shares, bringing its total ownership to 59.6%.
