Waertsilae expands its design portfolio

Ship design has been added to Waertsilae's growing portfolio following its acquisition of the Norwegian family-owned ship designer Vik-Sandvik. Waertsilae acquired the design and engineering services provider in a potential E∪D170M deal based on an initial E∪D132M, with the balance dependent on the performance of the business over the next three years. In 2007, Vik-Sandvik's turnover was E∪D55M. It has offices in India, Brazil, China and several eastern European countries.The Norwegian firm has a high profile in the offshore market and has also produced numerous product and chemical tanker designs.
