Multraship celebrated the arrival of its first newbuilding and the most powerful tug in its fleet in June when Multratug 77 (70-tonne bollard pull) was christened in Terneuzen in the Netherlands. The multi-purpose ASD tug, equipped for fire-fighting, oil recovery and salvage and has worldwide certification. It is the first of two from Vega Shipyard in Bandirma, Turkey. The second is due for delivery in 4Q/08. Designed for harbour, escort and sea towage, the vessel is 35.7m loa and has a moulded beam of 11.5m. Two Caterpillar 3516-B HD engines each deliver 1,929kW at 1,600rpm. These drive two Schottel SRP 1515CP propulsion units incorporating controllable-pitch propellers. A 150kW electric-driven bow thruster aids manoeuvrability and positioning.
