After tackled issues such as coatings, ballast, waste and emissions the EU has now turned its attention to noise as the next target for shipping.rnA sum of €3.5M has been handed over to a project with the oddly named title SILENV.This apparently stands for'Ship-oriented Innovative solutions to rEduce Noise & Vibration'.rnThe main aim of the project -which is to be led by French naval defence specialist OCNS - is to conduct a broad study of noise pollution from maritime activities with a view to producing a draft proposal for an'acousticgreenlabel'thatwill identify noise limits for each type of ship and make recommendations to achieve compliance.
