摘要

This first issue of the new year is an excellent opportunity to again write about one of my favorite topics-thernteaching of science and mathematics in elementary and high schools and what can be done to significantly increase the number of students who want to pursue scientific careers. As I have stated in the past, my belief is that we-parents, teachers, and administrators-don't do enough to encourage students to take these more difficult courses as they progress from grade school to high school. Yes, taking classes such as physics and calculus is not easy and requires many hours of study. But if the United States is to remain the world leader in technological developments, then we need to continuously fill the pipeline with enthusiastic and skilled engineers and scientists so they can create that next big app.
