摘要

While Greenpeace is demanding a ban on 38 pesticides, the European Commission has reiterated that new regulation EC 396/2005 on pesticide residue came into force on 1 September 2008. Greenpeace bases its position on a study stating that the number of pesticides ingested by consumers is much higher than the number that laboratory food tests can lead them to believe, "because a number of these pesticides are totally undetectable". For the Commission, the organisation is invoking a study carried out by the EFSA in March 2007 whose assessments were rendered obsolete by more in-depth assessments which were carried out in March 2008.
