Fiscal Measures For Cleaner And Safer Vehicles

The European Parliament would like tax incentives to be put in place in order to increase demand for ecological vehicles equipped with intelligent safety systems. MEPs are calling for this in a resolution adopted at the 19 June plenary session in Brussels, entitled 'Towards Europe-wide safer, cleaner efficient mobility'. The resolution is an own-initiative report, and therefore has no legislative status. It calls upon the European Commission to draw up guidelines to encourage member states to introduce such incentive measures. MEPs are also urging the Commission to develop a methodology allowing the impact of information and communication technologies to be measured with regard to CO_2 emissions, and to coordinate and circulate the results which are already available.
