Unauthorised GMO thresholds in preparation

Somewhat eluded by the official reports from the European Commission's orientation debate on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) of 7 May, the revision of marketing procedures and the calling into question of the zero tolerance policy with regard to unauthorised seeds were no less at the heart of discussions. On 7 May, European commissioners devoted themselves to sending a clear message to the public which is not too favourable to GMOs. But, at the same time, they defined a specific road map for the work of their services over the coming weeks, which is more suited to biotechnology advocates. By the summer, the Commission's experts must develop "technical solutions" to settle the issue of contamination of agricultural products imported by non-authorised transgenics.
