Commission goes 'green'

EMAS, the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, was launched in 2002 in the European Commission under a pilot programme aimed at 'greening' the institution. The EU executive decided, on 23 September, to apply the scheme to all its buildings, services and activities, in application of the EMAS regulation1. The Commission embarked, in 2002, on a pilot project for 'green' management of four of its departments in Brussels: the Secretariat-General, DG Personnel and Administration, DG Environment and the Office for Infrastructure and Logistics.
