Some 4,000 delegates representing 182 countries gathered on 2 June in Bonn (Germany) for two weeks of negotiations with the aim of establishing, at the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, a new international framework to combat climate change (Copenhagen, 7-18 December). The negotiations are at last getting to the heart of the matter, with a first set of texts being submitted to the delegations.
