Member states endorse standards for industrial motors

At the Ecodesign Regulatory Committee meeting, on 11 March, member states showed support for a draft regulation drawn up by the European Commission that would aim to reduce the energy use of industrial motors. The Commission claims the new rules would lead to energy efficiency savings in the EU27 that equal the annual electricity consumption in Sweden's or some 135 TWh by 2020 and 63 million tonnes less of CO_2 emissions. The Commission also talks of its draft regulation creating 40,000 new jobs and leadingrnto electricity savings of €9 billion by 2020.
