Member states propose limiting control of cloning

EU member states are expected to propose to MEPs the inclusion of clones and their direct descendants only in the future regulation on the placing on the market of novel foods, with a view to reaching an agreement at first reading, before the end of the legislature. No controls would therefore be carried out as of the second generation of breeding animals. This proposal is somewhat removed from the moratorium called for by MEPs, but goes against the European Commission's position. For the time being, the latter refuses any specific framework for this new reproduction method for breeding animals.
