Certain provisions must be clarified and, above all, imposing a "disproportionate" administrative burden and costs on operators must be avoided, believe agriculture ministers, who debated, on 19 January in Brussels, the proposal for a regulation aiming to regulate and better monitor timber trade~1.rnThis draft regulation aims to oblige operators to apply the 'diligence principle' and prove that they master the whole sector, from felling to putting the timber on the European market. To this effect, they will have to comply with a series ofrnmeasures and specific procedures and be subject to monitoring from recognised organisations.
