Meps Agree New Emission Standards For Heavy Vehicles

New heavy goods vehicles in Europe, which are placed on the market as of 1 January 2014, will have to comply with the strictest emission limits under the so-called Euro VI regulation. By approving, on 16 December, a compromise negotiated at first reading with the Council (co-decision procedure), the European Parliament, meeting in plenary session in Strasbourg, thus gave the green light to a regulation that will place 'cleaner' lorries on European roads nine months earlier than anticipated in the European Commission's initial proposal. The new regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal and will apply from 31 December 2012.
