EP calls for prolongation of coal aid until 2018

The European Parliament recom mends the prolongation of state sup port for uncompetitive coal mines until December 2018, rather than October 2014, as proposed by the Commission.rnMeeting in plenary, on 23 November, MEPs backed the report by Bernhard Rapkay (S&D, Germany), which points out that the shutdown of these mines will not reduce carbon dioxide emissions but will have serious social consequences.
