Greens want moratorium on new offshore oil and gas drilling

The Greens called, on 22 June, for a moratorium on new offshore oil and gas exploration in the EU until there is more clarity on the legal and regulatory framework. The environmentalists claim that there are too many loopholes and current EU regulations are too weak. Funds to pay for the clean-up and compensation in the event of an oil spill are also not in place.
