The subject of climate change, which was on the agenda of the European Council of 17 June, ended up going almost unnoticed among the 'other issues'. Although it is still a priority on the Union's political agenda, the subject on which no decisions were due at this session was supplanted by the urgent issues of the day, first among which the economic and financial crisis, its social and employment aspects and the 'Europe 2020' strategy. Yet it was out of the question to suggest that the Euro-rnpean Union is totally absent from the debate, as borne out by the single paragraph of the Council conclusions on climate change.
