EU shuts out illegal imports

In a victory for ecologists, imports into the European Union of illegally harvested timber and timber products will soon be totally prohibited. Experts from the Council and the European Parliament sealed a deal, on 15 June, on a draft regulation on control of the illegal timber trade (second reading, co-decision).rnThe accord still has to be formally confirmed by the Council and put to the vote in the EP plenary, probably at the July session.
