EU opens two chapters for talks with Zagreb

The EU opened two new chapters for talks with Croatia on 19 February, breaking a stalemate in accession negotiations caused by a border spat between Zagreb and Ljubljana. The two new chapters are fisheries and environment. "With these two chapters we have gained back the momentum and we are on a very good track now," Vladimir Drobnjak, Croatia's EU chief negotiator, said after the meeting, which brought to 30 the overall number of currently negotiated chapters. He also indicated that the way has been cleared for two other chapters (competition and judiciary and fundamental rights) to be opened in coming months.
