EU tightens radioactive waste management rules

From now on, the 27 EU member states will have to manage radioactive waste in strict compliance with interna-tional standards and publish informa-tion on these activities. These are the key elements of the directive on radioac-tive waste and spent fuel management, adopted by the Council of Ministers on 19 June (with Sweden abstaining)1. The text will enter into force in September 2011 at the latest
