'We cannot advance without a radical proposal'

The European Commission will be adopting, on 13 ]uly, its proposals for reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP): an important and long-awaited stage that will markthe start oflongnegotiations. Commissioner Maria Damanaki knows that things will not be easy but is optimistic: "Many member states support our proposals. There is bound to be opposition on certain points but not the same ones for all the member states and not always the same member states," she said in an interview with Europolitics Environment, on 11 July. The commissioner added that "this is an ambitious proposal, but we cannot advance without a radical proposal".
