Ministers stress link between economy and health

The Union's 27 health ministers have warned their fellow ministers with responsibility for financial affairs that the debate on economic governance has to take health care systems into account. This is the message that emerged from the first day's work at the informal Health Council, on 4 April in Godollo, Hungary. "The Presidency would like to stress the direct link between the economy and health. We would like to convince the finance ministers that health is not only a source of expenditure but that it also generates added value: health care systems employ a huge number of people and are an important pole for research and innovation.
