WEEE: Political agreement with limited ambitions

The EU's environment ministers succeeded, after lengthy negotiations on 14 March, in working out a political agreement on the recast of the Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). This marks a major step forward but the road to final adoption is still rocky. The position adopted by the ministers - which still has to be transformed into a common position (first reading) - seriously reduces the ambitions of the European Commission's initial draft and even more those of the European Parliament's position.
