London gets extra time to meet EU standards

The United Kingdom has been granted an extension on the deadline for applying in the Greater London Urban Area the air quality standards of Directive 2008/50/EC, which sets limit values (yearly and daily) for airborne particles known as PM10. The temporary exemption, granted by the European Commission on 11 March, is conditional on the United Kingdom's adaptation of its air quality plan for this zone.
