New blueprint to protect water resources

Pollution, overuse, drought and flooding: 12 years on from adoption of the Water Framework Directive, the EU's water resources are still endangered. "Stricter measures are needed to improve protection of water resources and ensure more efficient use of water," concludes the European Commission, which adopted a blueprint for that purpose, on 14 November. It sets out a long-term strategy (to 2050) aimed at ensuring the availability of enough good quality water to meet the needs of people, the economy and the environment.
