Action plan to save Europe's car makers

The European Commission wishes to steer the Union's automotive industry through the turning point of 'cleaner' car production and is determined to defend the EU industry at international level, it announced, on 6 June, on the occasion of the publication of the CARS 21 final report1. The CARS 21 (Competitive Automotive Regulatory System for the 21st century) high level group brings together the automotive industry, trade unions, ministers and European commissioners. Its report sets out the measures needed to ensure that the automotive industry will remain a pillar of the European economy to 2020.
