Plan for disasters, IPCC tells governments

Due to global warming, the planet has to prepare for an escalation of extreme weather events. Such climate extremes,combined with social vulnerabilities and exposure to risks, can produce climate-related disasters, warns the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Its new report~1 is the most complete summing-up to date of the links that can exist between global warming resulting from greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and weather events like cyclones, heat waves, droughts and flooding. This special report gives insight into the human and economic costs of disasters and will be included in the IPCC 'Fifth general report' due out in 2013-2014.
