Matthias Groote new ENVI committee chair

The chairmanship of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment (ENVI) has now passed from Jo Leinen (S&D, Germany) to his colleague, Matthias Groote (S&D, Germany). Groote is an engineer in industrial economy, who was born in 1973 in Leer, and started in politics at a local level in 1996, and as a member of the European Parliament in October 2005. He chairs the ENVI committee and is an alternate member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).
