UK and Siemens 2011 leaders in offshore wind power

Some two hundred new turbines began their operation at five wind farms in British waters in 2011. With this investment, the UK took a 87% share of all new installed capacity during the year, followed by Germany, Denmark and Portugal, revealed a European Wind Energy Association report1, on 19 January. Among wind turbine manufacturers, German electronics and electrical engineering company Siemens was responsible for the installation of 692.70 MW out of a total of 866.35 MW. This number is a slight decrease compared to 2010's 883 MW, but in the light of previous figures, the industry representative talks about a stabilisation of the offshore wind power market (2008: 327 MW, 2009: 584 MW).
