MEPs endorse increase in EFF interventions

The European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries (PECH) has given the go-ahead to an increase in support from the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) - up to 85% of project costs - in countries experiencing serious economic pressures. The countries concerned are Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Hungary, Latvia and Romania. The resolution drafted by Joao Ferreira (EUL-NGL, Portugal), adopted in committee on 19 December, approves the proposal to raise EFF interventions by 10% to support economic recovery in these countries. The measure will apply until the end of 2013 and is not expected to have any impact on the 2014-2020 period.
