Polisario Front blasts new draft fisheries protocol

The Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Maria Damanaki, initialled, on 24 July, the four-year protocol to the fisheries partnership agreement (FPA) with the Moroccan Minister for Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, Aziz Akhan-nouch. The signing of the document was immediately criticised by the Polisario Front on behalf of the Western Sahara. At issue is that the agreement would cover fishing zones in this region considered by the Saharawi people as being occupied by Morocco.
