EU cuts Bay of Biscay anchovy quotas

The European Union decided, on 23 July, to cut by 17% the quota for anchovy fishing in the Bay of Biscay during the 2013-2014 season, due to further deterioration of the stock in this zone. The member states adopted the proposal as presented by the European Commission. It reduces catch allowances from 20,700 tonnes in 2012-2013 to 17,100 tonnes for the 2013-2014 season. The regulation, already applied provisionally since 1 July 2013, is valid until 30 June 2014.
