Health: EU working on idea of screening migrants

The idea of a system of screening for infectious diseases among migrants is on the table. During an informal meeting, on 28 and 29 April, the member states' health ministers decided that the working group set up within the current Health Security Committee (HSC) should present recommendations identifying "when, how and for which diseases" screenings would take place. Greece, the main entry point for illegal immigrants to the EU, set a cat among the pigeons by putting the matter on the agenda of the ministerial meeting. In a working document distributed before the session, it called for systematic health assessments for migrants, which would be carried out according to indicators to be defined at European level.
