Faced with extremely cold temperatures that have led to several power cuts in the country, Slovenia activated the European Civil Protection Mechanism, on 2 February. Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic immediately offered to contribute technical experts and power generators in an operation coordinated by the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC). This helping hand was accepted by the Slovenian authorities and part of the equipment and technicians are already deployed and operational. Other countries taking part in the European Civil Protection Mechanism are also looking for ways to help Slovenia. The ERCC has stated that it is willing to give extra support if necessary.
