In memoriam: Roland Loewe, 'father' of the CMR Convention

Aged 92, Dr. Roland Loewe left us. Austrian, one of the major experts of transport Law in the 20th century, he was the last survivor of the Working group that in the framework of UNIDROIT (Rome) drafted the Convention governing contracts for the international transport of goods by road (CMR, 1956), and author of the best commentaries to it -almost might be called its "authentic interpretation" as if it was made by the legislator himself -. He collaborated with UNIDROIT in the drafting of other Conventions - such as that for the international sales of goods, and he was member of UNIDROIT's Governing Board till 2003.
