The paper presents a theoretical analysis of unbalanced operational states of arc and arc-resistance furnaces. The following aspects have been determined the dependencies enabling assessment of current and heating power unbalance occurring in a furnace circuit, taking into account the unbalance of supply voltages and asymmetry of supply-circuit impedances and of equivalent heating resistances; the conditions ensuring the desired operational states of a furnace -operation with current balance or with heating power balance or their desired unbalance. Theoretical investigations have been illustrated using, as an example, a selection of sup- ply, transformation phase ratios in order to balance the operation of a carbide furnace.
