摘要

The US' national security decisions are often heavily analysed and hotly debated by those who study national security and decision-making. In fact, many decisions that the USA has made have left not only members of the international community scratching their heads, but scholars and the general public as well. "Why did the U.S. do that" or "how did the U.S. reach that conclusion" are questions that are at the forefront of this debate. In National Security through a Cockeyed Lens: How Cognitive Bias Impacts US Foreign Policy, Dr Steve Yetiv uses five significant national security decisions of the USA as case studies; he combines the science of psychology with political science and international relations (IR) theory to offer explanations of how cognitive biases influence foreign policy and the decision-making process.
