Digitalization describes the growing application of Information and Communication Technologies across the economy, including energy systems and can be thought of as the increasing interaction and convergence between the digital and physical worlds. The trend toward greater digitalization is enabled by increasing volumes of data, rapid progress in advanced analytics - such as machine learning - and greater connectivity of people and devices as well as faster and cheaper data transmission.
