ZF takes covers off 7-speed dual clutch gearbox

ZF's new dual clutch transmission has been shown for the first time to some 900 engineers at the VDI Transmissions in Vehicles event in Friedrichshafen. The 7DT sports transmission is said to be particularly suited to applications with high engine speed requirements (up to 8,000 rev/min). The transmission was developed by ZF with Porsche in Kressbronn, Brandenburg and Schweinfurt and is produced at the Brandenburg site of ZF's Car Driveline Technology division. A new speed governing concept, used for the first time in volume production with the 7DT, contributes to extremely short shifting times. Apart from the comfort mode, there are also sports and a super-sports modes (the latter with super-fast shifting dynamics and a race-start function).
