Nuclear district heat for Helsinki metropolitan area? This question was analysed at Fortum's request by the consulting company Poyry. Background of this considerations is the Loviisa 3 nuclear power plant to be built on the island of Hastholmen in Loviisa. The new nuclear power plant unit can be in use in 2020 and the unit's designed operating lifetime is at least 60 years - with an option of about 1,000 MW district heating output.
